If you ever go back into Wooley Swamp son you better not go at night It’s a story about a man – the song’s narrator – who hears a fable about a ghostly place called Wooley Swamp, and ignoring the advice of others, determines he has to confirm the truth of the story for himself.
#WOOLEY SWAMP SONG FULL#
Occupying a Full region with the additional private region bonus, Wooley Swamp is the work of Matt and his SL partner, Aleriah Laurent (Aleriah Huntsman), and it takes as its inspiration The Legend of Wooley Swamp, the 1980 recording by The Charlie Daniels Band that forms the second track on their album Full Moon. It came alongside an invitation from Mathias Laurent, one of the region’s designers, to also pay a visit – so off I hopped! (C) Then they turned around, And went back to the shack, And picked up the money and ran.(Dm) They hadn't gone nowhere When they realized They were running in quicksand.(C) And they struggled and they screamed But they couldn't get away And just before they under(Dm) They could hear that old man laughing In a voice as loud as thunder.(C) And that's been fifty years ago And you can go by there yet.(Dm) There's a spot in the yard In the back of that shack Where the ground is always wet.(C) And on summer nights If the moon is right Down by the that dark footpath,(Dm) You can hear three young men screaming. You can hear one old man laugh.Amaya Mavinelli dropped me a line recently suggesting a visit to The Legend of Wooley Swamp. (C) And they all went crazy And they beat the old man, And they picked him up off of the ground.(Dm) Threw him in the swamp And stood there and laughed As the black water sucked him down. (C) One night the oldest brother said, "Y'all meet me at the Wooley Swamp later (Dm) We'll take old Lucius's money, and we'll feed him to the alligators." (C) They found the old man out in the back With a shovel in his hand,(Dm) Thirteen rusty mason jars was just dug up out of the sand. (Dm) They were mean as a snake, And sneaky as a cat, And belligerent when they'd speak. (Dm) Yeah, Lucius Clay was a greedy old man, And that's all that there was to it.(C) (CHORUS) Cable boys was white trash, They lived over on Carver's Creek. They all thought he acted funny (Dm) The old man didn't care about people anyway, All he cared about was his money.(C) He'd stuff it all down in mason jars, And he'd bury it all around (Dm) And on certain nights, If the moon was right, He'd dig it up out of the ground.(C) He'd pour it all out on the floor of his shack, And run his fingers through it. (Dm) He never did do a lot of harm in the world,But he never did do no good (C) People didn't think too much of him. The old man lived in the Wooley Swamp way back in Booger Woods. Spoken verse Alternate Dm for first line, and C for the 2nd. I just had to find out for myself There's somethings in this world you just can't explain. And I couldn't conceive it 'Cause I never would have listened to nobody else. And they say the ghost of Lucius Clay gets up and he walks around. There some slide leads during the spoken verse that i dont care to tab out. I just love the whole fullness the song, a great recording, and charlie daniels voice is perfect in this song. This is by far my most favorite southern rock song ever.
